Galatians 3

... if a law had been given which was able to impart life, then righteousness would indeed have been based on law...But before faith came, we were kept in custody under the law, being shut up to the faith which was later to be revealed.  Therefore the Law has become our tutor to lead us to Christ, so that we may be justified by faith.  But now that faith has come, we are no longer under a tutor.

The Law was the tool used to show us righteousness and our need for Christ.  It was used to introduce us to faith.  Once we act in faith (in response to the drawing of the Holy Spirit), the Law's work is done and faith's begins.

Law does not give life nor right standing.  It is a gauge.  How much am I looking to the gauge of the Law to determine my right standing?  Where am I seeking help from the tutor and not Justifier and Author of Faith?

God, please help me to not rely on only performance.  Let me recognize the purpose of the gauge ...to measure how far or fast, hot or cold...but to not use it as a substitute for a real relationship with You.  You alone give life, You alone make right, You alone justify.
