Moses assembled all the congregation of the people of Israel and said to them, “These are the things that the LORD has commanded you to do. ... You shall kindle no fire in all your dwelling places on the Sabbath day.”
... O kindle, Lord most holy, a lamp within my breast,
To do in spirit lowly all that may please You best.
(O Lord, How Shall I Meet You; Gerhardt/Winkworth)
No fire to be physically kindled because the Lord was kindling holiness in their hearts.
Father, Holy Lord, please kindle Your holiness within my heart, my mind, my spirit, my soul, my strength - in Your dwelling place. I desire You and none other. What tenderness You display towards Your children, how gracious You are to receive from their hands that which You placed there. Stir me, Lord God, inspire me, fill me - that I may be useful to Your Kingdom, Your purpose and Your Name.
