John 16

"But now I am going to Him who sent Me; and none of you asks Me, 'Where are You going?'  But because I have said these things to you, sorrow has filled your heart."

Did the disciples not question where the Master was going because of the grief and fear?  Did they miss the point due to an emotional response?

A few verses later the disciples are asking each other what Jesus meant, while Jesus was still standing there with them.  Was confusion, timidity, pride keeping them from turning to the Source of All Answers?

Holy Spirit, cultivate in me self-control that I may not be so overwhelmed by emotions and myself that I miss what You are saying to me.  Help me always ask You first.

"The prince of this world now stands condemned. ... But take heart; I have overcome the world."

Christ = peace
world = trouble
prince of this world = now condemned
Jesus = has overcome the world

What life He speaks to His followers then and now!  These words are prior to His arrest, crucifixion and resurrection.  What confidence and victory our Lord has!  It is ours, too.

I praise You Christ Jesus, my Messiah.  You are the only One who has overcome the world, the prince of this world and ushered in peace in place of trouble.  Thank You.  Thank You.  Thank You!
